Customized textile screen printing: Seribell’s know-how

In over 45 years of activity, Seribell has been able to experiment with various screen printing techniques on both natural and synthetic fabrics, increasing its skills in screen printing on fabric over time.

In this article we want to explain to you what textile screen printing is and the techniques used by Seribell to create customized prints and embroideries.

What is serigraph printing on textile and which are the most used printing techniques.

The term serigraphy, also known as silk screening, screen printing or serigraph printing comes from “Sericum” the Latin word for silk and “gràphein” the Greek word for to write or draw, precisely because the first support for silk screen printing was silk. (source wikipedia)

The term textile screen printing specifically indicates the field of custom printing on clothing and, in general, on fabrics, among the most used cotton or synthetic fibers such as nylon and polyester. The silkscreen printing process allows the passage of ink or paint on a chosen surface, by using an impressed frame. A squeegee is used to spread the ink evenly across the screen, allowing ink to pass through the open spaces onto the surface below. More colors will be provided and more frames will be used for the realization of the final product. The technique ends with a drying and fixing process inside an oven.   In addition to this textile printing method, Seribell, actively proposes different solutions to better meet the needs of its customers, such as:
  • Flex printing: also known as “heat-adhesive vinyl”, a technique that involves cutting the chosen logo on a colored film that is applied on the customized garment thanks to a hot press.
  • DTF or Digital Transfer: as the previous method, DTF is an indirect printing process; the design is printed on a particular sheet of polycarbonate/paper and then it is hot pressed on the chosen garment. Specifically, the DTF or Direct Transfer Film consists of a direct color printing on a film (with a thickness of about 75 µm) that is then transferred to any type of fabric. Unlike other printing techniques, with the DTF you can print with excellent results, both polyester and natural fibers. The print is very thin and light. Unlike thermal adhesives, for example, DTF does not require the transfer of other materials, but only pigment.
  • Direct Digital Printing: it is an innovative and high quality technique, images are printed in four-color directly on the fabric with a special high resolution printer that uses specific inks. Since the use of screen frames and films is not necessary, with direct digital printing it is possible to have small print runs at low costs. Prints have a high quality with many colors, shades or minute details.
  • Embroidery: Embroidery remains one of the most durable methods for customizing some garments such as polo shirts, sweatshirts and caps.
Our textile serigraph department consists of:
  • An automatic 6 stations carousel for textile screen printing
  • Two manual roundabouts for textile screen printing
  • GTX Brother direct digital printer
  • Double plate hot press for flex and transfer application
